music appreciation

I read an article this week about baby's senses in utero, and as early as 18 weeks they can hear voices and music. So we want to start a playlist for baby and let him/her have a little listen every once in a while in utero. Willie, The Beach Boys, Blossom Dearie, Chopin, Les McCann, Jose Feliciano. Hmm. I wonder if they make lullaby versions of Motorhead?

I used to sing "I can see clearly, now" by Johnny Nash to Jesse. He still loves it every time. If "Dad" feels so inclined, I believe his voice singing a personal rendition of Bob Marley "No, baby, No Cry" It gives you the upper hand when they come out into the big world....lungs-a-wailin' and then you sing them that familiar song...it calms them because it comforts them. They remember that voice from in utero.

I think no matter what you play, your kid will be a freak (in a good way). Lord knows Eli, AKA Yu Zheng, didn't hear the Ramones in China -- but that was his favorite for a loooooong time.

Chris was lulled by the Beatles and Jefferson Airplane. Ya gotta have Grace Slick on the playlist -- "Don't You Want Somebody to Love?"
